– How do notable individuals use social media?

I think notable individuals would treat social media as the platform to build their own PLN. For example, celebrities will use social media to promote their albums. So that they can have a higher chance to sell more. Notable individuals using social media really depend on what kind of PLN they want to build.

– What are the benefits of being in the public eye and having a PLN?

The good thing of being in the public eye is that people notable individuals would use this opportunity to promote themselves by creating their personal PLN. They can also get paid by commercial or contact if they are famous enough.

– Building community with online tools provided by the employer can be limiting, what are the perceived restrictions and benefits?

Some perceived restrictions would be cannot speak without thinking. I know that sounds a bit weird, but it’s true. Because there is a subtle relationship between employer and employee. Employees want to express their best opinion but at the same time, they might be worried about saying the wrong things. People can also benefit from them. Since the community is the place where people gather together with similar interests, they can learn from each other resulting in benefits to the employer.

– Delivering information in a connected society requires verifiable resources, how to build a PLN to rely on?

First, we need to use reliable resources to build our PLN and with the respect to the original sources. Second, don’t be afraid of negative comments, they are usually the truest thoughts. We need to treat them the same as positive comments because they both reflect some aspects of your work. Posting content with precise will eventually have a reliable PLN.

– How do those, who are veteran storytellers, minimize risk in sharing misinformation?

When veteran storytellers prepare for a topic, with the experience they have, they can sort out useful and reliable information for their next speech. They can also ask for professional storytellers using social media.

How would you create a PLN prior to engaging a social media campaign on a topic of your choice?

A rich and diverse PLN is the key to success in social media. Before engaging a social media campaign, I would build a strong PLN to prepare for the social media campaign. To be able to do so, I would first try to connect with people who have the same interest as me. By following some expertise in that specific area, you will most likely get the idea of how to create a PLN very soon.

Choose a topic, consider your audiences, and consider how you would crate a social media campaign leveraging your PLN

My social media campaign is going to be about taking pictures of food or anything interesting. I would mostly focus on fine dining and some fragment of lives with fine picture composition. I would also post supportive information for this community such as “How to make your pictures look nice?”. With the previous strong PLN, I will be able to attract audience so that I can gain profit of it.

* How diverse is your existing PLN?

I would say that my PLN is diverse because I use quite a lot of social media to engage with people. I use Wechat most of the time for basic communication, and there is this feature on Wechat that people can post anything on Moments mostly some pictures of lives and some thoughts or reflections. So I can still feel connected to friends even I haven’t get in touch with them for a long time. I also use Youtube, Bilibli, Weibo, XiaoHongShu, Instagram, Spotify, Amazon, etc. And I love to learn new stuff or skills, every time I will learn something new from these social media.

* In your PLN, are you learning from a variety of voices or are you the loudest in the room?

I am in both situations. I love to share my thoughts on social media. And I think it really varies from platform to platform. I found it totally different when I post stuff on XiaoHongShu and Instagram. On Instagram, I will see myself more as a food blogger, and I want my page to look good and well organized. On XiaoHongShu, I will always write more even posting the same pictures. I will write about its location, menu, food quality, and whether it is worth trying or not.

* Do you participate in a silo of information sharing (similar themes or wide range of interests)?

This is really a new thought to me. I am thinking back on what I have contributed and shared on the internet. And I think the answer is ”Yes” because I am just sharing my personal experience. And Who knows if someone has already experienced it? Am I consider wasting his/her time? From now on, I will rethink about this.

* How can you use a diverse PLN to broaden your views of inclusion?

With a diverse PLN and thinks to the Internet. I get to absorb information outside of textbooks. I get to choose the information that I want. The more I use it, the more I know how to filter useless information. But the most important quality to broaden my views of inclusion is to be respective.

* In your professional setting of choice, do you think inclusion is actively embraced?

No, I think there are people who treat the internet as a place where they can express their negativity.

* What is the learning outcome of your PLN and how are you ensuring your exposure to diversity and inclusion?

I learned how to stay connect with people and be able to filter useless information. And I have already acquired the skills of diversity and inclusion.

* How has your thinking about inclusion and PLN evolved after reviewing the videos and readings?

Now I have a better understanding of the differences between “Inclusion” and “Integration” I never knew “Inclusion” has so many meanings. And now I will see the word more as a commendatory term.

The video has also shown me some new thoughts. Shelley Moore treats her fans as a community where they can give back and forth. They all have the same goal which is to seek a better learning experience.

As an individual online, I love the experiment when sharing my ideas or lifestyle with others. The employer will see I am socially active on social media; Furthermore, I post pictures of my cooking and outfit. If I want to apply for a job in a high-end restaurant, they will see me as an experienced gourmet who has experience in multiple fine dining as a visitor mode. On the other hand, I do share my cooking experience on Instagram and WeChat. With a slightly decent plating, they will be able to see my potential skills in the culinary world.

What digital platforms are students currently using to develop their professional network?

I am using Instagram and WeChat as my main digital platforms. I can find people that have the same interest in cooking, and I get to connect with them by visiting their pages.

 What could the student consider in expanding their professional learning network?

Contents are crucial. People on the Internet seeking practical information. With that being said, students first need to think about “What contents should I be posting?”, “Is it useful to others?”. Eventually, people contribute their effective information will lead to an efficient searching experience.

Thread Discussion: How does data privacy and security limit and/or promote a PLN?

Being a part of the internet for so many years is making me numb about data privacy. I used to write down all my passwords from all the social media I used. But then I found it difficult to keep them, and I decided to save my passwords in the browsers. I find it comfortable now, but I think there are certainly some people who might think of this as a security limit. They will have concerns about whether their information will be stolen. This will definitely limit their pace promoting a PLN.
